Dave

Dave – Tour Leader/Guide

After living abroad for 4 years and cycling some of the best European landscapes, Dave realised that cycling heaven already existed in his own backyard here on the Sunny Coast. Therefore, Dave founded Sunshine Coast Cycling Tours so that other enthusiasts from across Australia and around the world could experience what the Sunshine Coast region has to offer.

Dave served for over 20 years in the Australian Army, the majority as a Physical Training Instructor.
He is an avid sportsman and a true competitor at heart.

He grew up playing rugby, tennis, running and triathlon and later turned his hand to touch football where he represented QLD and Australia.

Since 2018 Dave has been fully committed to his passion of cycling and triathlon. Dave has competed at Triathlon World Championships at 4 different events ranging for Sprint distance to Ironman World Championships in Nice 2023.

Dave’s easy going nature coupled with his professional demeanour makes him the perfect person to host your next biking experience.

Candice

Candice – Guide

After years of playing contact sport (AFL), Candice has now turned to cycling and golf as a gentler alternative on her body. She is an avid weekend warrior spending time on the bike to discover bakeries and breweries!

With a passion for travel, meeting people and hearing other people’s stories, Candice is always looking forward to a chat and raising the morale of everyone in earshot.

Don’t let her easy going nature deceive you, as she has already completed one Ironman, and is planning to complete another one in the coming year. Candice is also a local hero as she often saves cats from trees and extinguishing burning toast as a firefighter.

Thommo

Thommo – Guide

When it comes to the world of cycling, triathlon and outdoor adventure, there isn’t much Thommo hasn’t accomplished.

Thommo has guided tours throughout the European circuit involving the TDF, Giro, Vuelta and also on home turf at the TDU. Recreationally he has discovered the best parts of France and Spain on the bike.

Thommo has also conquered the world of triathlon completing 3 x IM and a handful of 70.3 races. Like Cam he also fulfilled the role of President of the ADF Triathlon Club in its earlier days.

Thommo has a passion for travelling and has a solid resume for outdoor adventure from snowboarding in Japan to hiking the Kokoda Trail and taking on Aconcagua in Argentina.

Cam

Cam – Guide

Cam has completed 35 year’s service in the Army including six years as the President of the ADF Triathlon Club and currently the National Director of Run Army. Cam has participated in a multitude of triathlon events including an Ironman and several half Ironmans.

Cam is an accredited development coach and has been a regular visitor to the Tour Down Under for training camps. He has completed three Tour de Cure signature tours, raising significant funds for cancer research. He loves cycling for its health benefits, but also for its social interaction, enjoying coffee stops and a post ride beer….wine….gin…….!

Matt

Matt – Guide

Matt is both a social rider and a competitive athlete who manages to juggle family, work and sport commitments! He has completed 6 years of the QFES Bike 4 Burns raising money for the QLD Children’s Hospital Burns Unit. He has chased several TDU’s around the course down in Adelaide which he openly states is his ‘favourite week of the year!’, and has spent endless hours training and competing in 3 Ironman races and a plethora of 70.3 and Olympic distances.

Matt is a family man, he is married with 3 young boys, and if you thought that wasn’t enough to keep him busy, he actually works as a Station Officer with the QFES (16 years) and is a RAAF reservist.

Matt is an all-around good guy who loves sharing cycling experiences with like-minded people.

Kat

Kat – Guide

Kat is a true professional in every sense of the word! Kat is an extremely humble human who is continuously achieving excellence in every aspect of sport and business. She is one of Australia’s newest professional triathletes with a bright future ahead of her on the racing circuit.

Her resume is also commendable, consisting of team physio for a professional rugby team, and is the co-founder and head coach of Core4Endurance triathlon club. Kat also flies the flag in a representative role as an ambassador for Lululemon.

In her downtime, she is the proud dog mum for Pippa the crazy border collie.

Steve

Steve – Guide

Steve has been a keen cyclist for many years and comes from a competitive running background. More recently he has been introduced in to the world of triathlon, With an outstanding result in the Sunshine Coast Ironman 70.3.

When Steve isn’t turning the pedals or cutting laps of the pool, he is a full time QLD Firefighter…… not all heroes wear capes!!

Steve is an all-round good guy who loves a chat over a craft beer or 5 and is a self proclaimed coffee connoisseur.

Wim

Wim – Safety/Logistics

Wim is that guy everyone needs around to make sure things go as smoothly as possible. He wears many hats on our team including support-car driver, medic, Mr fix-it and many other logistical roles.

Wim is a retired school teacher (44 years), he also served for 23 years as a Navy Reserve Officer. He has been volunteering as a Coast Guard Patrol Officer for 40 years! Wim is also our chat extraordinaire, so if you happen to find yourself in the support car you can look forward to learning about the local area from Wim.
